How LaseMD™ Skin works
Laser facial treats hyperpigmentation by first creating microscopic injuries in the skin where the pigmentation issue exists; by doing so, it encourages new cells to form and addresses hyperpigmentation at the cellular level rather than treating the surface level symptoms that would often result in merely harming your skin.

Pre-treatment care
- No sun exposure 2 weeks prior, including tanning beds and tanning products
- No photosensitive oral or topical (in area) medications – discontinue 2 weeks prior to treatment
- Discontinue exfoliants 1 week prior (ie retin-a, salicylic, glycolic, ect)
- No waxing, tweezing, epilating area 1 week prior
Post-treatment care
- Avoid the sun exposure for 7 days
- Avoid vigorous exercising and excessive sweating 48 hours
- Wear and SPF 30 or higher during the day
- Abstain from heavy makeup for at least a week following treatment to allow the pores to heal correctly and “breathe”.
- Keep the skin moisturized with a gentle moisturizer and use a gentle cleanser
- Avoid any heavy physical/chemical exfoliants for up to a week post-treatment

1. What To Expect During a Treatment of LaseMD™ in San Diego?
You will find that the LaseMD™ experience varies depending on the level of treatment being received. A Level 1 treatment requires no numbing and only a gentle, warm tingling sensation is felt, whereas a Level 3 treatment requires the application of medical grade numbing cream to reduce the sensations felt. You will experience some slight redness for a few hours immediately after treatment, but will soon notice your skin improving in overall tone and texture over the span of ten days to about six months.
There are three different levels we can operate the laser at in which a nurse will determine the appropriate level during your consultation for a laser facial in San Diego.
- LaseMD™ Level I
LaseMD is very gentle and perfect for treating small scars and rejuvenating your skin. The lower wavelength treatment is a light exfoliation that helps maintain your skin’s natural glow. - LaseMD™ Level II
The slightly stronger setting is best for addressing issues like moderate sun damage and mild fine lines. - LaseMD™ Level III
The most intense level works wonders on sagging skin, moderate fine lines, more significant sun damage, and significant acne scars. Because of the intensity, you can expect 5-7 days of redness and some flaking. This treatment offers dramatic results and can remove years from your face, neck, and hands in a single, quick treatment.
2. How Many Laser Facial Sessions Will I Need?
As with any treatment, the amount of LaseMD™ sessions in San Diego you need will depend on what your primary concerns are as well as their severity. It is always best to start with a lighter treatment to initially see how your skin reacts, and then gradually increase the levels over the span of around four to six sessions. Beginning with a higher setting can produce lasting results faster and may not require as many laser facial sessions, however once we have consulted with you, we can better indicate the number, intensity and frequency of your laser facial sessions.
3. What Are Possible Side Effects of a Laser Facial in San Diego
Depending on the intensity, you will experience red, dry and flaky skin for a few days after a laser facial treatment in San Diego. It is always best to treat your skin as if you are sunburnt, using a gentle facial cleanser and aloe vera to soothe any irritation. Avoid direct sun exposure, hydrate your skin and wear sunscreen with an SPF 30 or higher. Your skin will turn from red to slightly pink and may have a sandpaper like texture over the span of a couple weeks. Once this phase is complete, you can enjoy glowing, healthy-looking skin both on the inside and outside as your condition noticeably improves.
