The best preparation for a med spa treatment is thoroughly understanding your treatment. Knowing the requirements, what to expect from treatment, and essential aftercare helps you achieve the best results and minimizes risks. This guide explains what you need to know about Botox, Fillers, and PRX treatments to be confident and informed.
Before any cosmetic treatment, you must attend a consultation appointment. At The Laser Cafe, you can discuss your medical history, allergies, chronic medications, and goals. Being completely honest during your consultation is crucial, allowing us to tailor your treatment plan to your needs. We need to understand your health to ensure your safety and recommend alternatives if necessary. Some treatments should be avoided while on specific medications, so please tell us everything.
When preparing for a Botox treatment, you should take a few precautions to ensure optimal results. Starting one week before your first appointment, you should discontinue any blood-thinning medications and supplements like aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and Vitamin E. Stopping antibiotics and delaying vaccinations for two weeks before Botox is also essential. Speak to your doctor before you stop taking any prescription medications.
You should also avoid drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment, as liquor is a blood-thinning substance that can exacerbate bruising. Additionally, do not wax, tweeze, or bleach the intended treatment areas for 48 hours before. On the day of your appointment, wash your face and do not apply any skincare products, moisturizer, sunscreen, or makeup to avoid skin irritation.
Botox treatment sessions are relatively quick and typically do not take more than 30 minutes. Most clients only experience mild discomfort during the injections. However, if you have particularly sensitive skin, you may bring an ice pack to help numb the area. One of the main advantages of Botox is that there is no downtime, and you can continue with regular activities right away. However, there are some aftercare requirements you should be aware of:
• No strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours
• No facials, waxing, or massages for one week
• No lying down for four hours
Due to the nature of dermal filler treatment, there are several considerations for treatment prep. Do not schedule dermal fillers within four to six weeks before or after tattoos, piercings, surgeries, or vaccinations because your body needs time to recover. Dental work should also be avoided for at least two weeks before and after your dermal filler appointment to reduce the risk of infection. As with Botox, you should discontinue your intake of blood-thinning medications for at least seven days because they can cause bruising and swelling.
On the day of your appointment, ensure that you have eaten and are properly hydrated. Some patients feel dizzy or faint during the procedure, and eating a light meal beforehand often minimizes mild lightheadedness. Filler procedures typically take 30 to 60 minutes, and results last between 6 and 18 months, depending on the type of filler and the treatment area. After your appointment, you can use cold compresses to alleviate swelling, but do not apply ice directly to the skin. The aftercare requirements for dermal fillers are:
• Sleep with your head elevated on the first night
• Do not touch, massage, or put pressure on the treated areas for 48 hours
• Avoid exercise, saunas, hot tubs, and tanning beds for 48 hours
• Do not drink alcohol, smoke, or wear makeup for 24 hours
• If you experience pain, lumps, or signs of infection, contact us immediately
PRX-T33 is a unique skin treatment that stimulates skin rejuvenation without the recovery period associated with chemical peels. Preparation for PRX requires taking a break from skincare with active ingredients such as retinoids, exfoliants, and serums for at least five days before your appointment. You should also skip waxing, laser treatments, and chemical peels for at least one week to ensure your skin is fully healed and ready for treatment.
We recommend arriving at your appointment with a freshly washed, product and makeup-free face. PRX treatments are quick and generally comfortable, so you should only feel a mild tingling or warming sensation. You may notice some redness or tightness right after your appointment, but it will fade quickly. You will need 3-5 PRX sessions scheduled one week apart to achieve optimal results. This treatment is safe for all skin types and tones.
After your first PRX treatment, we will provide a personalized skincare kit for everything your skin needs. It’s important to use hydrating moisturizers to nourish your skin and support recovery between treatments. The most important aftercare requirements for PRX treatments include:
• Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher sunscreen daily
• Avoid picking or scratching your skin
• Stay away from intensely hot environments like saunas and steam rooms for 72 hours
• Do not use skincare with active ingredients for at least one week after your final session
